The Fall Bench Bar Conference will be held on Thursday, September 27, in Judge Jones' courtroom. The conference is accredited for 6 hours of CLE and 1 hour of Ethics and will cover criminal law, family law, and voir dire among other topics. The conference is free to paid members of the Bell County Bar Association, which includes the Bell County Bar Association Paralegals. All faiths are invited to attend the Red Mass at the Christ the King Catholic Church on Thursday, September 13, at 6:00 p.m. The church is located at 210 East 24 Street in Belton. This Mass is an opportunity to gather as a judicial community and to pray for wisdom, guidance, and discernment in the dispensing of justice. Staff, probation officers, clerks, office managers, etc. are all welcome. A reception will follow.
The August meeting will be on Thursday, August 16, 2018, in Auxiliary Courtroom No. 2 on the second floor of the Bell County Justice Complex. Lunch will be provided at no cost to members who attend. Victoria Smith, an attorney with Lone Star Legal Aid will be the speaker. Ms. Smith will talk about the Legal Aid Services history, the service areas and types of services provided, and who can qualify for those services. Additionally, Ms. Smith will discuss the various other units in Lone Star Legal Aid and the services provided by those units. Legal staff and attorneys are invited to attend. Ethics courses will start at 8:45 and run up to the lunch hour.
Following lunch, there will be breakout sessions. A family / civil law track (3 hours) will be held in Judge Jones' courtroom, and a criminal law track (3 hours) will be held in Judge Adams' courtroom, both starting at 1:15. We anticipate being completely finished by 4:30 p.m.
As always, the Conference is FREE to paid members of the Bell County Bar Association and the Bell County Bar Association Paralegals. Non-member attorneys can attend for $45, non-member paralegals can attend for $25, payable at check-in.
